Nature and adventure

Sint-Agatha-Rode is located in the protected valley of the Dijle river, surrounded by light rolling hills, pastures, woods and nature reserves: a dream for every one who loves to (Nordic) walk or bike. You can enjoy the unspoiled nature or observe the birds in the nature reserves Grootbroek,   Doode Bemde and the Rodebos (wood of Sint-Agatha-Rode). Or you can follow the tracks of the wild beavers of this area.

Cyclists and mountain bikers will be satisfied in this region: you can find recognised cycling routes, muddy cross-country paths, many paths through the woods.

Keen horse riders can rent a horse in one of the stables (manèges) in the area for long or short excursions.

Do you want to go for a row on the Dijle river? This can be organized in the neighbourhood.

Children who love climbing and playing outside, can have fun in the educational playwoods of the Meerdaalwoud ( entry in our neighbouring village Sint-Joris-Weert).

The recreational area of the Zoetwater (2 villages away, in Oud-Heverlee), offers entertainment to young and old people: a giant playground, ponds, woods, snack bars and restaurants attract many visitors.

In Wavre (10 km away) lies a large adventure park ,with  a rope circuit for all ages, death ride, tarzan swing,...

Bad weather? At the indoor climbing wall Hungaria in Leuven (15 kmaway) you can climb walls, risk a deathjump, or choose the speleobox or klettersteig.

Children love the large indoor playgarden in Wavre: Badaboum.

And last but not least enjoy the giant amusement park Walibi in Wavre, with all kinds of attractions and a wonderful tropical swimming pool (Aqualibi).

Culture

Sint-Agatha-Rode, located at the Belgian language border, developed from a farmers village to a rural residential village. It is one of the five villages of the commune of Huldenberg. The oldest archeological discoveries date from ancient Roman times.

Huldenberg  has a rich cultural history. A few monuments are: the Gothic Sint Agatha church (13 century) with a early gothic clock from 1738 and the old presbytery (end 18th century).

The original structure of the villages has hardly changed. The centre of the village is  protected  including the façade of our house, the church, the graveyard wall, the presbytery and the freedom tree. The art patrimony has sadly suffered from plundering and destruction (but has been partially restored).

The region has a long military history; The pillbox behind our garden is one of the silent witnesses (one of a line in the Dile valey)

Anyone who has never visited the university city of Leuven, must absolutely discover its cultural and historical treasures.

Wavre is an older town too, with very good shopping and small restaurants in pedestrian lanes leading off the main street. It is  easily accessible from here.

Wellness

In de direct neighbourhood you can enjoy a family or luxuary sauna, beauty treatments or special indulging arrangements.
